THE COMMIES ARE COMING!
Attic Theatre Ensemble to present
RED SCARE ON SUNSET
by Tony Award Nominated Playwright
Charles Busch

The year is 1951 in Hollywood. America’s sweetheart, Mary Dale, is about to discover that her husband, her best friend, her director and her houseboy are all mixed up in a communist plot to take over Tinseltown. First point of order? Abolishment of the star system – no more top billing!

On September 12, 2008, the Attic Studios and Attic Theatre Ensemble will present Red Scare on Sunset by Tony nominated and Drama Desk Award winning playwright Charles Busch.

Originally produced in 1991 by the WPA Theatre with a subsequent run Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Red Scare on Sunset, with its hilarious take on McCarthyism and the surrounding paranoia in Hollywood, is among Busch’s hilarious works that simultaneously spoof and celebrate the classic film genre.

“Mr. Busch is a first-class satirist and farceur and “Red Scare on Sunset” is definitely Busch at his best.” - The New Yorker
“You have to champion the ingenuity of Busch’s writing which twirls twist upon twist and spins into comedy heaven.” - Newsday

In keeping with Busch’s original concept, the Attic Theatre production of Red Scare on Sunset will feature a man – LA favorite Drew Droege – playing the role of heroine Mary Dale. Drew Droege performs at The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Comedy Central Stage, where he produced his solo show, Bad Education. He's been on Comedy Central's Reno 911! and Halfway Home, as well as Oxygen's Campus Ladies. Drew's the voice of Feathers on the online cartoon, Planet Unicorn, which recently won the OMFG Award on Logo's NewNowNext Awards. He's also currently starring in Matt Besser's breakdancing musical, FreakDance: The Forbidden Dirty Boogaloo at Upright Citizens Brigade, and was last seen at the Attic Theatre in Say You Love Satan. He's impersonated Chloe Sevigny at every bar, pool hall, juke joint, and speakeasy in town.

In addition to Droege, Red Scare on Sunset will feature two additional Groundlings alumni, Amy Procacci and Chris Tarantino, all three of whom perform regularly in the Groundlings longform improv show, The Crazy Uncle Joe Show. Also featured in Red Scare on Sunset are Michelle Begley, Eric Jorgensen, Jan Munroe, Sona Tatoyan and Dane Whitlock.

Red Scare on Sunset is directed by Cindy Gendrich and produced by Robin Roy and Christine Stump. Brian Schnipper is the Artistic Director for the Attic Studios and Attic Theatre Ensemble.

Red Scare on Sunset will run September 12 through October 18 with performances Friday and Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 323.525.0600 ext 2# or online at www.attictheatre.org/tickets. Attend the opening night gala on September 12 for $25!

The theatre is equipped with wheelchair/handicap access and concessions are available prior to curtain and during intermission.

You can find discount tickets for certain shows at Plays411 and also Goldstar events.
See you at the theatre!
